St. Paul Cathedral

With its 110 metre high dome, St. Paul's Cathedral is the second largest church in the world, after St. Peter's in Rome.

Seat of the Bishop of London, the Cathedral underwent many transformations with respect to its original plan, following reconstruction done after the catastrophic fires of 1675 and 1666 (the Great Fire).

Today the imposing monument has a classical style structure, a masterpiece of the great architect, Christopher Wren, who was entrusted with reconstruction in 1672. Work lasted around 35 years and the enormous expense was covered in part by coal import duties. The crypt is the largest and richest in Europe.
